I have devoted myself to photography and poetry after several decades of research, teaching, and publishing in the fields of
political theory and language instruction (see Daniela Gobetti’s page at Amazon.com). I have become bilingual in Italian and
in English thanks to forty years spent in the United States. I love philosophy, languages and images: for me, conceptual, verbal
and visual images belong in the same universe as I attempt to bring them in close conversation, whether I am taking a photograph
or writing a poem.
I hold a Laurea in Filosofia Politica from the University of Turin, the city where I was born in 1952. I moved to New York in 1979, where I did
a Ph.D. in Political Science at Columbia University. I taught Political Theory and managed a Center for European Studies at the University
of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I also became a translator and writer of books for learners of Italian. I moved to Milan in late 2021, and back to
Turin in January 2024. I divide my time between Turin and Gressoney St. Jean, in the Aosta Valley, among my beloved mountains.
My photographic work has been awarded prizes in international competitions and has been shown in solo and group shows in Italy (most recently at the Liquida exhibition,
organized by Paratissima in Turin), in the United States, Switzerland, and in France and Switzerland again, as you can see on the Awards page. Click here to see my CV.
When I lived in Milan I discovered - a marvelous stroke of luck! - a group of women poets who founded an association, Apriti Cielo! thirteen years ago. They generously
welcomed me with open arms. Our core activity takes place in La stanza della poesia, where we meet to read other poets with whom we open a conversation which inspires
our own work, published as our Quaderni. More recently we edited a volume, which includes both our work and that of other poets, entitled, È meglio pace - Lemmi in tempo
di guerra, Edizioni paginauno, 2025.
